The EmpowHER Project
We are a Not for Profit Project whose objective is to help young girls and ladies in: Health, Education and Resilience.
- 37 million women suffer from period poverty.
- 0.6 million girls drop out of school between primary 6 and JSS1.
- 64 percent of girls in southeast Nigeria lacked education before menstruation.
According to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), a woman spends approximately seven years of her life menstruating. For many girls in Nigeria, this period is marked by a lack of access to proper menstrual products, significantly impacting their education, health, wellness, and overall happiness.
As noted by the World Economic Forum some girls in Nigeria miss school because they lack menstrual hygiene products. This they highlighted aligns with findings indicating that girls in Nigeria miss an average of 24% of the school year due to menstruation-related issues. This absenteeism negatively affects their educational performance, leading some to drop out of school due to poor grades or psychological stress.
The EmpowHER Project is dedicated to empowering Nigerian secondary school girls by ensuring equal access to menstrual health resources, quality education, and support for their personal and academic success. Our mission is to eradicate period poverty through comprehensive health initiatives, educational programs, and resilience-building activities.
